PS2 Web Recomp: PlayStation 2 static recompilation to WebAssembly

Category: Games & game engines · Type: Reconstruction

Target: PlayStation 2 games · EE static recomp to WebAssembly · browser / native

Translates a PS2 game’s Emotion Engine code ahead of time into C++ compiled to WebAssembly, with a runtime that emulates the rest of the console and draws through WebGPU, turning a disc image you own into a local web page or native runner.

Relationship
Independent reimplementation

Evidence scope
Upstream README describes ahead-of-time recompilation of Emotion Engine code to WebAssembly with a WebGPU-based runtime, documents Gran Turismo 4 and God of War II as working, and states that no game data is included. No REA involvement is claimed.

Know before you try
Other games will likely stop at unimplemented system calls or GS features. Needs WebGPU (off by default in Chrome on Linux); mainly run on Linux x86-64, with scripts also building on Apple Silicon macOS. We have not independently tested it.

Status
Active; two games brought up (Gran Turismo 4, God of War II)

License
MIT
No Sony or publisher game data included; bring a disc image of a game you own. Third-party components keep their own licenses.
